Beware of Splodejement Day

Splosion Man creator Frank Wilson

Makes the T-1000 look like C-3PO.

Splosion Man is one of Xbox Live’s best games, at least without all of the cheaters.  Recently, Twisted Pixel Games’ CTO, Frank Wilson, learned of an exploit that allows players to post ridiculously high scores.  To combat this injustice, Frank created Splodejement Day, one of the single most destructive moments in human history.

On September 1st at 2:00AM Pacific Time, Twisted Pixel will unleash a title update that will fix the aforementioned exploit, erase those erroneous scores and presumably restore order to the universe.  Even better, the fix comes just in time for the “Speedy Splode” contest, where gamers attempt to attain the best time in Splosion Man’s single-player levels three to eight; the contest runs from September 6th to the 12th.  If you win, you’ll snag a Splosion Man statue and a poster signed by the developers.

When reached for comment, Frank had this to say about his program to stop the menace, dubbed Splodenet:

“It goes on-line August 31st, 2009.  Human decisions are removed from leaderboard defense.  Splodenet begins to learn at a geometric rate.  It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Pacific Time, September 1st.  There is no score but what we earn for ourselves.

That just goes to show that dirty cheaters have no business on Xbox Live (or anywhere else, for that matter).  In the meantime, play Splosion Man.  It’s a wonderful game because we said so.

Glad to see a company that actually cares about the integrity of their XBLA leaderboard. So many titles have leaderboards clearly infested with fake scores, and no one seems to notice/care.

I hope Chair is working on a patch for Shadow Complex, because the leader-boards are painted with exploited scores. Not to mention all the other bugs and glitches.

That guy means business. I need to play more Shadow Complex. I put it down when Batman came out.
