Microsoft Allows For Mention of Sexual Orientation In Gamertags

Microsoft doesn't hate gay people.  In fact, to prove this, the company today announced a revisal of its terms of service, which allow users to express their sexual orientation (well, without going into too much detail) in their Gamertag.  Previously, offensive terms got the users kicked off the service, but that's now a thing of the past.

Said Microsoft, "Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox Live community. This update also comes hand-in-hand with increased stringency and enforcement to prevent the misuse of these terms."

Don't go crazy with it, though.  Microsoft still holds the right to boot names that go too far out of hand on the "pejorative", if you will.  So keep it cool and be proud of yourself.
