On the Download: Week of February 15th

All right, it’s time to wrap up the week with another edition of On the Download.  A lot of add-ons and games came out, so let’s get crackin’.

Wii Shop Channel

Leading this week’s update for Wii is Capcom’s second Phoenix Wright game for WiiWare, Justice For All.  Based on the Nintendo DS game of the same name, you fight your way through four new tricky court cases, butting heads with prosecutors and snobby witnesses.  If you liked the first, this is worth the 1,000 point price.

Shin’en’s tricky physics-based puzzle game Art of Balance and CALARIS’ strategy game WarMen Tactics also came out for 800 points apiece.  Wrapping up the update is the latest Sonic game to hit the Virtual Console service, Sonic and Knuckles.  It goes for 800 points as well, and, if you own previous Sonic games, the lock-on technology that worked with the original game functions perfectly (so you can play as Knuckles in previous games).

The best of the bunch: Sorry, Phoenix.  As much as we like your legal swagger, we have to go with Sonic and Knuckles.  It’s so much fun.

Xbox Live

The main game to hit Xbox Live this week is 2K Play’s innovative puzzler The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, featuring a snarky pie thief with the ability to recreate clones of himself.  It’s a lot of fun, and if you want to know more, check out our review.  There are also two great additions to Games On Demand – Capcom’s action-packed Resident Evil 5 and Namco’s hilarious star-roller Beautiful Katamari.  So, basically, it’s a head to head battle between infected humans and the King of All Cosmos.  Bring it!

In addition, a few other updates hit the service this week.  A new downloadable chapter for Resident Evil, Lost In Nightmares, is now available, along with the second batch of DLC for Assassin’s Creed II, the meaty Bonfire of the Vanities.  Other than that, there were the usual updates for Rock Band and Lips (but, oddly enough, not Guitar Hero), along with new content for Domino Master, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce and Dante’s Inferno.

The best of the bunch: Gotta go with Winterbottom.  His pie-stealing antics make us smile from ear-to-ear.

PlayStation Network

There’s plenty happening on the PSN storefront this week, including a week-long sale for Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.  You can snag it through next Wednesday for the low price of $7.49.

Leading this week’s update are two huge features.  The first is the debut episode of The Tester, where several lucky gamers get to battle for an official position at Sony.  The other thing, which you’ll probably have more fun with, is Sega’s Yakuza 3 demo.  We’re already beating up the thugs now.  (If you prefer something less thuggish, Sega also released a Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing demo.)

In addition, three classic PS One games also arrives this week, going for $5.99 each.  Sorcerer’s Maze is a decent fantasy puzzler, Mass Destruction brings all sorts of, well, mass destruction (duh), and Magic Carpet is a pretty cool recreation of the classic PC hit, with lots of strategy and action.

On top of that, the usual updates apply.  New Assassin’s Creed and Resident Evil stages are available, there’s a slew of songs released for Rock Band (including a five-pack from Otis Redding), and new content is available for Dante’s Inferno, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (the Hoth level, where you can take on Luke Skywalker).

The best of the bunch: Yakuza 3 is definitely a must-download, but we have a place in our nostalgic hearts for Magic Carpet as well.  It’s worth the ride.

And that’ll do it for another week of downloading.  See you next week!
