Welcome back to On the Download. The weekend approaches, so you probably want a good idea what you missed this week in downloads. Well, fortunately, we’re here to wrap it up for you.
Three new WiiWare games came around this week. Leading the pack is Telltale Games’ final (for now) Tales of Monkey Island adventure, Chapter 5. Will Guybrush Threepwood have a happy ending? Will pirating rule forever? You’ll have to spend 1,000 Wii points to find out. 5-in-1 Solitaire also came out from Digital Leisure for only 500 Wii points, and Gameshatra’s puzzling Tumblebugs can crawl your way for 800 Wii points.
What about Virtual Console? Well, there’s only one game this week, but it’s all kinds of awesome. Alex Kidd In Shinobi World is a Master System classic where you fend off bad guys using bad-ass kung fu skills, taught to you by Joe Misashi himself. (OK, not really, but he’d be a great teacher.) The game sells for only 500 Wii points.
The best of the bunch: Alex Kidd In Shinobi World. No, really, it’s no Enchanted Castle. We assure you.
Well, aside from the usual Rock Band, Guitar Hero 5 and Lips updates, there was plenty to get excited about on Xbox Live this week. Plenty of demos came out, including a shocking Battlefield: Bad Company 2 one, a multiplayer Aliens Vs. Predator, and a Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce, in case you feel like killing thousands of folks in seconds. Other content also arrived, including a Revived Warriors pack for Dragon Ball Raging Blast, more tracks for MX Vs. ATV Reflex, and Night Missions for 0 Day Attack On Earth.
As for games, OneBigGame released its charming puzzler Chime, which sells for 400 Microsoft points and has a portion of proceeds going to charity. On top of that, Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 is also available in Games On Demand – for 30 bucks. Proceed with caution on that one.
The best of the bunch: Gotta go with Chime. It’s really good, and makes you feel good for giving to a worthwhile cause.
Surprisingly, there’s a lot in store for you PSN subscribers this week. A new Qore episode is available, with the lovely Veronica Belmont talking Yakuza 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, among other games. A new episode of Pulse with Christina Lee is on deck, too.
As for demos, there are plenty. Fret Nice, Tank Battles, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, Aliens vs. Predator and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are all ready for you to try out. If you like Fret, you can purchase the full game for $14.99. (We’ll review it next week.) Oh, and if you haven’t checked out Madden NFL Arcade yet, it’s on sale this week for only $9.99, just in time for the Super Bowl.
In the add-on content category, all the Guitar Hero, Rock Band, MX Vs. ATV Reflex and Dragon Ball Raging Blast updates are available here, along with an International Edition Makeover Ticket for White Knight Chronicles ($4.99) and some exclusive themes, should you feel like switching up your virtual décor.
The best of the bunch: Madden NFL Arcade. It’s a fun arcade romp, and at $10, a damn good value.
That’s it for this week! See you next time On the Download!
