Welcome back to On the Download. It’s March already? Cool, let’s get the party started.
Leading this week’s Nintendo update is none other than Mega Man, making his return in his 10th adventure on WiiWare. Check out our review to see how it went for us. (Hint: it’s a lot of fun.) If you’re seeking something a little more sporting, JV Games’ Dart Rage lets you play on your own or with friends in a variety of games for only 600 Wii points. If whacking moles is your speed, Happy Hammerin’ will get the job done for you, for only 500 points. Finally, if you’re a Neo-Geo fan or a fighting enthusiast in general, you can trade fisticuffs with Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui and the rest of the gang in the classic Fatal Fury Special, priced at 900 points.
The best of the bunch: No question, it’s Mega Man 10. Nothing beats another 8-bit adventure for a bargain $10 price. It’s time for Mega Bustin’!
This week marked the start of Microsoft’s Block Party for Xbox Live Arcade, with the release of the cool strategy/action title Toy Soldiers. In this 1,200-point priced game, you’ll destroy toy soldiers by using gunners, mortars and whatever other goods you can get your hands on. Check out our review for more info. In addition, Bethesda’s Fallout 3 arrived on Games On Demand, in case you missed all the post-apocalyptic fun from last year.
Several demos also arrived on the service this week, including Lips Party Classics, Just Cause 2 and MotoGP 09/10. Several add-ons also came out over the course of the week, including the opening of the Rock Band Network (with 100+ songs!), the Desperate Escape DLC for Resident Evil 5, and the usual updates for Lips and Guitar Hero 5. Some VIP content for Forza Motorsport 3 arrived as well, in case you didn’t pick it up already with the limited edition of the game.
The best of the bunch: Toy Soldiers is a triumph in taking the non-usual route in tower strategy games. Check it out.
Along with a new episode of The Tester, the PlayStation Network has several games to choose from this week. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episodes 1 and 2 are now available in a bundle, and a new batch of levels is now available for the aerial platformer Topatol, titled Pillar of the Skies (it goes for $7.99).
As for demos, there are plenty. Just Cause 2 and MotoGP 09/10 are ready for you to try out, along with Major League Baseball 2K10. As for add-on content, you’ve got several pieces released for MLB 10 the Show, including six classic stadiums and optional training point/franchise funds boosters, along with the Dante’s Inferno Dark Forest Pack ($4.99, but it should be free if you bought the Divine Edition of the game), Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape, and the usual updates for Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band (including the opening of the Network). “All You Need Is Love” is also available for The Beatles: Rock Band, and you can check out a new episode of Pulse with Christina Lee as well.
The best of the bunch: It’s all about Just Cause 2. There’s something invigorating about stringing a guy up against an explosive barrel and watching him rocket skyward…
That’s it for this week, folks. We’ll be back with our next update after GDC!
